Make the Most of Owners Weekend in Destin

destinfishingrodeo

Planning a trip to visit your beach home in Destin or South Walton for your annual homeowners association meeting? If so, Newman-Dailey Resort Properties would like to help you make the most of your time at the beach. We’ve compiled a fun list of things to do in Destin and things to do at your beach house while you’re here:

Take a Break: Attend the 68th Annual Destin Fishing Rodeo.

Destin’s Annual Fishing Rodeo dates back to 1948 and is held the entire month of October. Weigh-ins are held daily behind AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar from 10 am until 7 pm and cover 26 divisions including seniors, juniors, ladies, and teens. Check out Shark Saturdays and have your picture taken with the local catches and Miss Destin. This event is free to the public.

Check the Batteries in Your Smoke Detectors.

This is an easy way to ensure your family and guests stay safe when visiting your beach home. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, smoke detectors should be tested once a month and batteries should be changed twice a year. Many aim to change their smoke detector batteries in the spring and fall when they change their clocks for daylight savings time.

Take a Break: Enjoy Happy Hour at Cuvee Bistro Destin or Cuvee 30A.

Voted “Best in Destin” for the last six years and “Best of the Emerald Coast” for happy hour by readers of Emerald Coast Magazine, Cuvee Bistro Destin and the new Cuvee 30A are local hot spot for drinks and socializing. Happy hour is nightly from 5 pm to 9 pm (hours change seasonally) and includes a bar menu that boasts many of Chef Creehan’s award-winning dishes along with drink specials, including $2.75 beers, $4.75 martinis and $5 wine by the glass, among others. Happy hour also includes live local music Wednesday through Saturday. Consider taking a break and hanging out with the locals at Cuvee.

Change Your Air Conditioner Air Filters.

It’s the little things that make a big difference. Air filters should be changed at least quarterly, but more frequently depending on the volume of use of your beach home and whether or not you have pets. Seldom occupied homes without pets can be changed every 6 to 12 months. However, the typical suburban home or beach homes on a rental program should be changed every 30 days. If your property is on a rental program, this may be included so check with your rental management company first to find out when the filters were last changed.

Take a Break: Visit a Local Emerald Coast Brewery.

Destin and South Walton have joined the nation with a growing love of craft beer. From Grayton Beer and Idyll Hounds in South Walton to Destin Brewery and Props Brewery in Destin-Fort Walton Beach, the fall is a great time to visit one of the Emerald Coast breweries and sample some of their annual and seasonal beers. Or head over the Chan's Craft Bar and sample several local brews at one location.

Apply A Fresh Coat of Paint.

It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint will do for a room. Make your beach home feel fresh again by painting a room a new hue or simply give your baseboards a fresh coat of white paint. The results will be worth your investment of time and resources.

Take a Break: Attend a Local Fall Event on the Emerald Coast.

There are fabulous fall festivals taking place every weekend in October. Depending on which weekend you’re in town, consider checking out South Walton Fashion Week (Oct. 6-8), Blue Crab Festival (Oct. 8), the Baytowne Wharf Beer Fest (Oct. 14 & 15), Best of the Emerald Coast at Grand Boulevard (Oct. 22), Festival of the Arts (Oct. 29- 30) and Seeing Red Wine Festival (Nov. 4-6). You’ll be glad you did
