Pensacola
Located in Escambia County, Pensacola is the westernmost city in the Florida panhandle. Pensacola is the sight of the first Spanish Settlement within the borders of the continental United States in 1559. Nicknamed “The City of Five Flags,” Pensacola has been ruled by five different governments during its history: Spain, France, Great Britain, the United States, and the Confederate States of America. Pensacola is a seaport on Pensacola Bay and is home of the Blue Angels flight demonstration team. Pensacola’s beaches extend for miles along the Gulf of Mexico and range from busy lifeguarded beaches to quiet, secluded beaches of Gulf Islands National Seashore where visitors can explore historic Fort Pickens.
